Donating to causes | October 2022
Seeing positive impact
Every couple of months, we follow up with the organizations we’ve donated to in the past to see how they are getting along – how the funds are being used, what stories they’ve shared, and to see what we can learn from them. A couple highlights are below.
The Team Eastern Kentucky Relief Fund has continued to provide assistance to residents of Eastern Kentucky since the catastrophic flooding in July of this year. Though the flooding is no longer an active disaster, residents continue to be impacted by the aftermath. In particular, the fund has helped with funeral expenses to the families of the deceased, as well as direct payments to survivors.
Miles 4 Migrants, a nonprofit that funds air travel for migrants, asylees, asylum seekers and refugees, recently assisted in transporting a Columbian family that was freed from a U.S. migration detention in Florida. They have also paired with the Canadian government to provide Ukrainians airfare to Canada.
Immigrant workers and members of the Immigrant Alliance for Justice and Equity (IAJE of MS) met with U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh about the rampant abuse facing migrant workers across Mississippi. August marked three years since ICE’s workplace raids arrested 680 workers in Mississippi.
